Dr. Marian A. Robinson's research focuses on K-12 education policy, leadership, school improvement, and institutional and organizational change. Using qualitative methods, she explores local views and experiences with reforms that incorporate marketized elements of competition, choice, and external assistance.

Prior to coming to GSEHD, Dr. Robinson was the Principal Investigator of a national study of the school learning environment in Amman, Jordan for a USAID project.

She was a Senior Researcher and Research Scientist with the Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE) at the University of Pennsylvania and Teachers College, Columbia University.

Dr. Robinson has designed and conducted qualitative research studies of national and regional reform initiatives focused on district-based instructional coaching, state teacher preparation policies, school-based data-use strategies, and comprehensive school reform. Most recently, she led two large-scale qualitative studies of the implementation of data-driven collaborative inquiry in New York City public schools.

Early in her career, she served as a program specialist with the Office of Educational Research and Improvement at the U.S. Department of Education, and an Assistant English Teacher with the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program.
