The GW UNESCO Fellows Program is a distinguished fellowship opportunity supported by the GW UNESCO Chair in International Education for Development, housed within GSEHD's International Education Program. This program offers selected graduate students the chance to complete an internship (minimum 3 months in length) at UNESCO headquarters, a UNESCO-affiliated field office or institute, or a UN agency.* Participants gain hands-on experience in international education and development while contributing to global initiatives.

*Note: Placements are subject to change, and travel is contingent on GW policy.

Fellowship Requirements

  • Pre-Departure Orientation: Fellows participate in preparatory sessions before departure.
  • Summer 2025 Internship: Internship dates will be determined by the fellow in consultation with program staff.
  • Course Requirement: Fellows must enroll in a 3-credit course during the summer of their internship. Course requirements include a journal component, contributions to the GW UNESCO Fellows blog, and a final portfolio featuring work completed as part of the internship.

  • UNESCO Requirements: Fellows are expected to take part in all UNESCO required activities and act according to UNESCO professional standards and guidelines. 

Fellowship Benefits

  • Stipend: Covers airfare and living expenses (amount pending).
  • Health Insurance: Provided for the duration of the internship.
