Dr. Sarah M. Ray earned a Ph.D. in Educational Human Resources Development with a specialization in Adult Education from Texas A&M University. Main areas of research include gender, entrepreneurism, sustainable development and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Sociocultural Learning, and Critical theories, including Feminist theories, are key to Dr. Ray’s current scholarship. Further theorizing and deconstructing power is central to research that explores gender, employment, and sustainable development in adult education and human resource development.
Before transitioning into academia, Dr. Ray worked for a non-profit organization that served survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault as a community educator. She also worked as an employee trainer/instructional designer at a community college where she gained training, consulting, and instructional design experience. This practical experience has enhanced and continues to influence academic pursuits and research endeavors.
Dr. Ray received an undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a Master of Public Administration from Sam Houston State University. Participation in the American Association of Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE), Adult Education Research Association (AERA), Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) and the annual Adult Education Research Conference (AERC) continues to instill a further comment to the human resource development and adult education field through practice and collaboration. Dr. Ray is committed to conducting, disseminating, and publishing scholarly research while also providing high quality teaching, mentorship, and partnership with students and community partners.
