The International Education Program and UNESCO Chair in International Education for Development is delighted to announce that Dr. Laura Engel (PI) and Dr. Jihae Cha (Co-PI) have received a Spencer Foundation Vision Grant to support collaborative research planning on teacher well-being and retention in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The project, titled “Enhancing System Support for Teacher Well-Being and Retention in Sub-Saharan Africa: Towards a Place-Based, Collaborative Research Agenda,” will run from January to November 2026. It brings together teams from GW, the University of Nottingham's UNESCO Chair in International Education and Development (UK), and partners in Senegal, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.
Spencer's Vision Grants provide time and resources to develop innovative, interdisciplinary research agendas that aim to transform education systems. This grant represents the first stage toward a potential Transformative Research Grant (up to $3.5 million).
