The Department of Human and Organizational Learning is housed within the Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) at the George Washington University. It has a rich history of offering a holistic understanding of organizations. It focuses on the interrelationships among people, organizations, and societies to enhance organizational and individual performance. Our programs are designed to equip learners with research-informed tools and innovative approaches to help them lead contemporary organizational challenges.
The curriculum blends theory and research with real-world applications, and the structure encourages learners to form collaborative learning communities that foster a growth mindset and facilitate responsible actions.

The Organizational Leadership and Learning program empowers change-driven professionals with the mindset and tools to rethink leadership, challenge assumptions, engage with multiple stakeholders, and drive meaningful change across organizations.
- Hybrid -
The Doctor of Education curriculum focuses on organizational issues such as strategic change, transformational leadership, individual and group learning processes, organizational development, and global and international issues.
The PhD program is geared toward a research-intensive career, such as faculty, think tank member, policy organization, etc. Students study the changing nature of working in an environment of rapid sociocultural and technological changes.
