Organized by Dr. Doran Gresham, Assistant Professor of Special Education and Disability Studies, Dr. Laura Engel, Professor of International Education, and GSEHD alumna Elaine Walton (MA Ed), the second International Inclusive Education Symposium (IIES) gathered at sunrise on May 2 in Navrongo, Ghana. More than fifty educators from across the region joined the hybrid event to exchange practical strategies for teaching students with exceptionalities. Sessions combined concise presentations with hands‑on labs that highlighted student voice, culturally responsive methods, and adaptable classroom tools.

Presenters Gabriel Asheru Benn, Ariael Brooks‑Porter, Meredith Chase‑Mitchell, Ed.D., Keesha Blythe, Ed.D., and Tiffany Jenkins led discussions on equity‑focused planning, arts integration, and inclusive workforce preparation. Their work was supported by a downloadable resource toolkit that reached additional participants online.

Building on the inaugural 2024 symposium, this second convening strengthened regional networks and advanced GSEHD’s global commitment to equity and inclusion. Planning is underway to extend the model to additional schools in Senegal and Nigeria for the fall of 2025.
