Dr. Sarah M. Ray earned her Ph.D. in Educational Human Resources Development from Texas A&M University. Her main areas of research are entrepreneurism, feminism, and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in adult education and human resource development. Additionally, Dr. Ray studies diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in Higher Education institutions where she focuses on employees in higher education settings.

Dr. Ray's work employs both qualitative and quantitative methods and including projects that analyse self-employed and employee PIAAC data for various sociodemographic factors examining learning-skills of self-employed individuals in the U.S. She also conducts qualitative research with immigrant women entrepreneurs to understand how immigrant women learn to be entrepreneurs in the US.

Additionally, Dr. Ray partners with the Office of Climate and Diversity at the School of Public Health at Texas A&M University to examine diversity, equity and inclusion within higher education institutions. As an adult educator she focuses on employees and learners in higher education settings as well as social justice endeavors.

Before her transition into academia, Dr. Ray worked for a non-profit that served survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault as a community educator, fundraiser and community service director. She also worked as an employee trainer/instructional designer at a community college where she gained training, consulting and instructional design experience. Her practical experience enhanced and influenced her academic pursuits and research agenda.

She received her undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and her Master of Public Administration from Sam Houston State University. She actively engages in professional communities including American Association of Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE), Adult Education Research Association (AERA), Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) and participates in the annual Adult Education Research Conference (AERC). Participation and active engagement in these communities has instilled further comment to the human resource development and adult education field through practice and collaboration. Dr. Ray is committed to conducting, disseminating, and publishing scholarly research while also providing high quality teaching, mentorship, and partnership with her students.
