For the last 25 years, Hilary Barnes Hoopes has served in a number of key roles at the George Washington University’s Museum Education Program (MEP). Her work includes facilitating core courses as adjunct faculty and mentoring degree candidates during field placements. Hilary also led the admissions efforts in cultivating competitive cohorts and oversaw the evaluation process for the academic program.

Over the course of her career, she has worked at the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery, Institute of Museum and Library Services, Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. She currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Governors at the Colby College Museum of Art where she works to advance equity and racial justice, promote academic engagement, and enhance career pathways for students. Hilary earned her MAT from the GW Museum Education Program and earned her BA in American Studies from Colby College. In dedicating her career to museum education, Hilary strives to be an advocate and leader in museum literacy, to implement relevant practices in museum education and to cultivate connections with audiences.
