Dr. Elyssa B. Smith

Elyssa B. Smith is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Counseling and Human Development. Her research employs qualitative methods grounded in the integration of poststructural understandings of phenomena, contemporary psychodynamics, and complex adaptive systems. She is interested in exploring researcher (post) reflexivity, dynamics of the counseling process and relationship, play therapy training, and the use of arts-based methods as a means for depth, creativity, and expression.

Dr. Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor. Her clinical work includes providing play therapy to children (ages 3-18), parents, and families across schools, community mental health centers, private practice, and partial hospitalization programs.
