GSEHD's 2020 John Horrworth Children’s Book Award Presented to Student Isabel Scrabis

GSEHD Elementary Education student Isabel Scrabis was named winner of the 2020 John Horrworth Children’s Book Award on May 15 at the Children's Literature book contest judging. Three judges used virtual platforms to watch and listen to student contestants read their original children's books.

Kim Sloan, instructor for the program’s Children's Literature course, conducted the children's book writing project, which culminates in this annual competition with awards determined by a panel of judges. The winner receives $500, the second place winner receives $300, and honorable mentions receive $100 each. Ms. Scrabis won for her book Alina the BallerinaKatie Miller won second place for her book My Superability. An honorable mention was awarded to Erica Collins, from the MA Curriculum & Instruction Program, Elementary Concentration, for Let Us Save the World
