Natalie B. Milman, Ph.D. is Associate Dean of the George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development’s Office of Student Life and Professor of Educational Technology Leadership. She is also a member of the interdisciplinary Human-Technology Collaboration PhD program and research lab, a member of GW’s Academy of Distinguished Teachers, and winner of the 2017 Bender Teaching Award. Her research focuses on the design of instruction and models for the effective leadership and integration of technology at all academic levels; online student support needs, engagement, and learning; issues of diversity, inclusion, and digital equity; and the use of digital portfolios for professional development.

She serves as the co-editor of the Current Practice Section of "Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education" and has published numerous journal articles, including in "Computers in the Schools," "Journal of Research on Technology and Education," "Journal of Technology and Teacher Education," "Online Learning," and the "Quarterly Review of Distance Education." She presents frequently at conferences and has co-authored several book chapters and books.

Dr. Milman earned a doctorate in Instructional Technology from the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development with a graduate specialization designed to prepare technology leaders. She began her career in education as a second grade, science specialist, mentor, and technology teacher in Los Angeles County, California. She has taught at the graduate school level since 1997 and online since 2001. She is fluent in Spanish, a first-generation Colombian-American, and a first-gen BA, MA, and PHD graduate.

    • Dr. Milman was invited to participate in the "Amplify the Message: How to influence policy in the next 25 years" strand at the National Technology Leadership Summit (NTLS). NTLS is an invitation-only summit that brings together national leaders from educational associations, as well as editors of educational technology journals, directors of non-profit foundations, federal policy makers, and corporate representatives. The goal of the conference is to accelerate the meaningful impact of digital technologies in education for the 21st century.

    • Dr. Natalie Milman presented, "Reimagining Ed Tech Research" at the Civics of Technology Conference. In this session, she shared a brief, broad overview of recurrent themes in educational technology research from the past few decades which demonstrate a need to re-imagine educational technology research. After providing this overview, she engaged participants in exploring what research is needed to move the field forward. How can we re-imagine educational technology research to help us “dream of the just futures we need for our students, educators, and communities” (Heath & Krutka, 2024, para. 9)? She closed by exploring how we might achieve this important goal to re-imagine educational technology research.

    • Dr. Milman gave a paper presentation at the International Society for Technology and Education conference titled, "Exploring virtual school leadership: A literature review (2015-2023)." In this session, Dr. Milman shared key findings from a literature review of empirical, published research conducted between 2015 and 2023 examining school leaders (i.e., school administrators and principals) in charge of virtual schools.

    • Dr. Milman was an invited panelist for the Mars Functional Capability Week training for Mars Senior Global Leaders at Mars Headquarters in McLean, VA. She spoke about innovation, change, and technology in higher education.

    • Dr. Milman presented, "Designing for Powerful Differentiated Instruction with Technology," at the ACSD Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. In the presentation, Dr. Milman helped the audience explore how approaching teaching with a design mindset transforms what is possible, with even the simplest educational skill set and toolkit.
    • Dr. Milman gave a keynote presentation titled, "Educational technology trends and issues in higher education," for the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program: Turkemenistan.
  • July 2023
    • Dr. Milman gave a Master Class Lecture entitled, Ethical Considerations of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to this year's Caminos Al Futuro scholars. Caminos Al Futuro is GW's fully-funded, selective pre-college and residential summer program for rising seniors in U.S. high schools offered by GW's Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute. Typical candidates have a record of outstanding academic ability and a demonstrated commitment to service and leadership within the Hispanic/Latino community.
    •  Dr. Natalie Milman, along with Dr. Gina Adam and Dr. Hurriyet Ok from GW's SEAS and GSEHD PhD student Ani Meliksetyan (Human-Technology Collaboration) with additional SEAS students, presented Work in Progress paper, "Using virtual reality cleanroom simulation in a mixed nanoelectronics classroom," at the American Society for Engineering Education Annual Conference and Exposition, Baltimore, MD. This presentation paper was included in the Conference Proceedings as well.
