Exploring the Integration of "Just Technology" in Education with Dr. Milman

December 20, 2022

Dr. Natalie Milman and GSEHD doctoral candidate Jessa Henderson (Ph.D., Human Technology Collaboration), along with Marie Heath, Loyola University Maryland, and Sumreen Asim, Indiana University Southeast, published the article, "Confronting Tools of the Oppressor: Framing Just Technology Integration in Educational Technology and Teacher Education," in the journal Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education.

Per the abstract, the article explores the following topics: "Power, privilege, and prejudice are embedded within technologies. While technologies can be designed and used for democratization and empowerment, they can also be used to undermine the foundations of democracy in a variety of ways. Using a conceptual framework of technologically embedded injustice, the authors engaged in a theoretical analysis of just technology integration in the preparation and professional development of preservice and in-service teachers." In coordination with the publication of Dr. Natalie Milman's co-authored paper exploring the implications and warnings associated with tech integration in the classroom, GW's Office of Media Relations and Office of Research Communications produced this "3 Questions" video with her.
