Dr. Doran Gresham presented at the National Dropout Prevention Center’s annual conference in New Orleans, introducing an innovative new model designed to reduce absenteeism and improve outcomes in special education. His workshop, "Addressing Absenteeism in Special Education: Strategies for Engagement and Impact," offered school leaders a fresh approach through the CREATE strategy. CREATE stands for:
  • Community Mapping and 21st Century Skill
  • Reading Instructional Training for Instructional Assistant
  • Efficacy (Collective Teacher Efficacy
  • Active, Proactive, and Positive Behavior Management System
  • Transition Plans for ALL student
  • Engaging Families through VABBing (Validate, Affirm, Build, and Bridge)
Dr. Gresham’s presentation was engaging, and relatable, leading participants to develop absenteeism and dropout prevention plans based on his CREATE framework. The session focused on actionable solutions to improve family engagement, enhance instructional practices, and promote positive school cultures, with the ultimate goal of supporting students with exceptionalities.
