GSEHD alumna Domenica Guaman Ochoa, who earned her master’s degree in Museum Education, has been recognized with the Emerging Creative Award at the 40th Annual Mayor's Arts Awards for her impactful work as Coordinator of the Hirshhorn Teens Emerging Artists Program. The award celebrates rising leaders in the arts and creative industries who are making significant contributions early in their careers. This breakthrough award recognizes a visionary who is shaping the future of the arts and has made a substantial impact on the creative culture of the District of Columbia.

Hosted by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, the annual ceremony is widely regarded as the District’s most prestigious recognition of achievement across the arts, humanities, and creative sectors. Held at the historic National Theatre, the event brought together artists, educators, and community leaders to honor individuals and organizations whose work strengthens the city’s vibrant cultural landscape.

As part of the Hirshhorn Teens Emerging Artists Program, Guaman Ochoa has played a key role in fostering creativity and amplifying youth voices through contemporary art. Her work reflects the spirit of the Emerging Creative Award, which recognizes visionaries who are not only advancing their fields but also making a lasting impact on their communities.

The milestone 40th anniversary celebration highlighted the importance of the arts as a driving force in Washington, D.C.’s growth and identity. District residents from all eight wards participated in the nomination and selection process, underscoring the community-wide appreciation for the arts and those who help them thrive.

Guaman Ochoa’s achievement also reflects the strength of GSEHD’s Museum Education program in preparing graduates to lead and innovate in cultural institutions. She is expected to return to GSEHD this fall as a guest speaker, offering current students the opportunity to learn from her experience and success in the field.
