Alumna, Dr. Seasante' Oliver, Named Principal of Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center

Alumna Dr. Seasante' W. Oliver (Ed.D., Educational Leadership and Policy Studies) has been appointed as Principal of Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center (NVJDC). She has been the acting principal at NVJDC over the past six months and brings more than 25 years of experience in the field of education to this new appointment.

Previously, she served as the principal at George Mason Elementary School; interim principal at Cora Kelly School for Math, Science, and Technology; and summer enrichment principal at Patrick Henry K-8 School and Douglas MacArthur Elementary School. Dr. Oliver also worked at George Washington Middle School, providing academic and administrative support.

Prior to joining Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), Dr. Oliver served as a teacher, lead teacher, summer program coordinator, assistant principal, and principal in the Hampton Roads area. During her tenure in Hampton Roads, Dr. Oliver’s Title I school earned national recognition from the United States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School for closing achievement gaps.

Fostering a caring culture of collaboration within the learning community, while equitably meeting the needs of diverse learners, is a priority for Dr. Oliver. She believes that there is no success that is ever attained individually; it is the collective efforts of many.

"Dr. Oliver brings extensive experience in educational leadership, coupled with a deep commitment to fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments. Her expertise in addressing the diverse needs of students, particularly those in alternative settings, makes her an invaluable addition to the NVJDC."
