Dr. Michael Marquardt is Professor Emeritus of Human Resource Development and International Affairs, former Chair of GSEHD's Department of Human and Organizational Learning, and former Program Director of the Executive Leadership Program and Global Leadership in Teams and Organizations Graduate Certificate Program. Mike serves as President of the World Institute for Action Learning.

He has held a number of senior management, training and marketing positions with organizations such as Grolier, American Society for Training and Development, Association Management Inc., Overseas Education Fund, TradeTec, and U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Dr. Marquardt has trained more than 95,000 managers in nearly 100 countries since beginning his international experience in Spain in 1969. Consulting assignments have included Marriott, Microsoft, Motorola, Nortel, Alcoa, Boeing, Caterpillar, United Nations Development Program, Xerox, Nokia, Constellation, Samsung, Organization of American States, and Singapore Airlines as well as the governments of Indonesia, Laos, Ethiopia, Zambia, Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Russia, Jamaica, Honduras, and Swaziland.

He enjoys skiing, music and traveling with his Swiss wife, four children and eight grandchildren.

In the News

Dr. Michael Marquardt was the keynote speaker at the Japan National Conference on Action Learning where he spoke on the subject Neuroscience and Action Learning. Dr. Marquardt was also the keynote speaker at Action Learning Conferences in Taiwan and the Philippines.

Dr. Michael Marquardt gave the keynote address at the World Institute for Action Learning Global Conference in Shanghai, China. His address was entitled Transforming Organizations into Learning Organizations with Action Learning. In addition, Dr. Marquardt conducted a Master Action Learning Demo. Doctoral student Popsy Kanagaratnam also presented at the conference on a case study entitled Action Learning at Any Age.

Dr. Michael Marquardt did a video conference presentation on action learning to the executives from national banks of the Eastern Caribbean Region. He also spoke on the same topic at a conference at the Southern Maryland Adult Education Center.

Dr. Michael Marquardt was the keynote speaker at two conferences: (1) National Conference on Building the Learning Organization for Human Resource Development among ASEAN countries (Bangkok, Thailand), and (2) Asia Regional Conference on Action Learning and Leadership Development in a VUCA World (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia). In addition, during a recent trip to Asia, Dr. Marquardt was a guest speaker for faculty and students at Ramkhamhaeng University (Bangkok), Panyahpiwat Institute of Management (Bangkok), University Putra Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), and Pannasastra University of Cambodia (Phnom Penh).

Action Learning and Leadership Development, an article co-authored by Dr. Michael Marquardt and ELP alumni Dr. Mary Volz-Peackock and Dr. Bea Carson, was published in the latest issue of Advances in Developing Human Resources.
