Dean Michael Feuer was profiled by The GW Hatchet for their article, "GSEHD dean reflects on creation of international programs, financial management as tenure closes."
As Dean Michael Feuer concludes his 15-year leadership of the George Washington University’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) on July 1, he reflects on a tenure marked by significant international expansion and financial stewardship. Feuer, the son of immigrants, emphasized the importance of global educational connections, notably through initiatives like the dual master’s degree program with Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, which has provided opportunities for disadvantaged students and fostered cross-cultural academic collaboration.
Under his guidance, GSEHD enhanced its reputation as a hub for research-driven educational practice, cultivating a robust faculty and extending its global reach. Feuer also prioritized financial management, successfully increasing the school's philanthropic endowment to $6.5 million, thereby supporting scholarships, faculty development, and innovative programs.
Beyond administrative achievements, Feuer championed equity and justice in education, integrating these principles into GSEHD’s curriculum and international programs. He also addressed contemporary challenges such as digital misinformation and the impact of social media on youth.
Stepping down from his administrative role, Feuer will return to the faculty to lead a project focused on embedding civic education into teacher preparation programs, continuing his commitment to advancing education through research and practice.
