From its inception in 1974 by visionaries GW professor Marcella Brenner and museum educator and artist Sue Ann Robinson, the Museum Education Program (MEP) has nurtured a generation of museum professionals dedicated to shaping a more humane citizenry.
In this illuminating collection, alumni spanning five decades share their personal anecdotes and professional insights, revealing the diverse ways they have tackled pressing issues, from environmental awareness to social justice, leaving an indelible mark on the national learning landscape. Beyond alumni reflections, Museum Change Agents features contributions from museum thought leaders, offering insights into the current and future direction of museum practice. ABOUT THE EDITORS
Lotte Lent (Co-editor)
Lotte has been on the faculty of MEP for twenty years. She came of age as an interpreter at the Boston Museum of Science and as a ranger with the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area before moving to Australia for graduate school. She is proud of developing Australia’s first solar-powered interpretive drive trail and receiving national recognition for interpretive work at Shark Bay World Heritage Area. In the U.S., Lotte has served as researcher and writer of the National Park Service’s 21st Century Interpretive Skills Vision Paper (2014), an invited facilitator at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Future of Learning Institute, and an avid contributor to the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI)/Alexandria (VA) Community Remembrance Project.
Greg Stevens (Co-editor)
As an alumnus of MEP (‘01) and principal of Purple Cow Career and Talent Development, Greg is passionate about helping people and organizations succeed. From 2018-2023, Greg served as director of the Master of Arts in Museum Professions Program, and associate director of the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University. Previously, Greg directed the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) Professional Development program. Prior to AAM, Greg held education positions at several museums, and Kellogg Performing and Visual Arts School. Greg is proud to have co-edited (with Wendy Luke) A Life in Museums: Managing Your Museum Career (2012) and teaches in MEP and the Johns Hopkins University Museum Studies Program.
