Alumna Deema Kahwash (GWTeach '21) was named the 2023 Beginning Teacher of the Year in Buncombe County Schools (BCS) in North Carolina. Ms. Kahwash teaches at Community High School. "As a teacher, my job is to guide students daily," she says. "I love helping high school students develop their natural love for learning." The Beginning Teacher of the Year process was developed to honor and retain teachers who show promise as excellent teachers and education leaders in North Carolina.
Alumnus Nathan Yohn (GWTeach '22) was named the 2023 New Teacher of the Year at Woodbridge Senior High School (VA), where he teaches mathematics. Mr. Yohn was also a nominee for the Prince William County’s Teacher of the Year Award. These are awarded by Prince William County’s Outstanding Educators program, which seeks to recognize teachers who guide their students toward excellence, work to create a positive school environment, and demonstrate leadership and innovation.
