Hi, I’m Emily, an advisor, educator, administrator, and museum theorist. Before getting into career counseling, I was a museum educator and programs person. My experience includes positions in various government, for-profit, and non-profit institutions, as well as in the classroom and informal learning environments. My background in education makes me a valuable resource for the GSEHD community!
Career Services is a lifelong service for current GSEHD students and alums! I provide a variety of career services, including:
- Resume review
- Cover letter writing and editing
- Interview prep
- Handshake 101
- Job search strategies
- General career strategy
- LinkedIn and networking
- Clifton Strengths assessment
- and much, much more!
I love to help people and, as an educator, teach people about application materials and coach them to achieve their goals. In graduate school, I always heard, “Networking is the most important thing,” but never was taught how to network. So my coaching philosophy as a Career Counselor is to be an active listener and to root my advice in my lived experiences along with statistical information. Each session, you will leave with a manageable number of next steps that can make a daunting career journey more digestible.
I hold dual Master’s degrees in Arts Administration and Policy & Modern and Contemporary Art History from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). I also have a Bachelor’s degree in The History of Art and Architecture with an emphasis in Museum Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
In my free time, I am a photographer, collage artist, Marvel fan, foodie, avid traveler, and plant mom. I also enjoy going for lots of walks with my beagle-husky-pit mix, Opal!
To take advantage of my services, please make an appointment with me via Handshake. If you do not have a GW Handshake account, email gsehdcareer@gwu.edu, and we will send you instructions.
