Ph.D. candidate Injung Cho (Comparative and International Education) was selected as one of the Graduate Student Associates (GSAs) at the GW Sigur Center for Asian Studies. The competitive program provides GSAs with up to $1,000 in reimbursement to support research and conference travel, advancing their academic and professional development in Asian studies.
Cho’s research explores children’s identity development, non-formal education, and the spatial-relational dynamics that shape everyday learning experiences in urban slum contexts in Indonesia and the Philippines. She recently co-authored the article “Podcasts as pedagogy in higher education: A scoping review to map and advance the field” in the British Journal of Educational Technology, contributing to growing scholarship on innovative learning modalities.
Cho is a dedicated scholar-practitioner and an active leader in the field. She serves as co-chair of both the New Scholars Committee (NSC) and the Youth Development and Education Special Interest Group (YDESIG) within the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES).
Before pursuing her doctorate at GW, Cho developed digital literacy and arts education programs for North Korean refugee students through People for Successful COrean REunification in South Korea. Her international experience also includes serving as a global citizenship educator with the Korea International Development Cooperation Center’s World Friends Korea Volunteer program, interning at UNESCO Bangkok, and working as an outreach coordinator for the FreshEd podcast. She holds a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies at Waseda University in Japan.
With her selection as a Graduate Student Associate, Cho will continue to advance research that supports marginalized youth and contributes to the broader field of comparative and international education. Her work exemplifies the global perspective and community impact at the heart of GW’s academic mission.
