In honor of World Mental Health Day (October 10), the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation invited Dr. Maggie Parker, Dr. Ashley Darcy-Mahoney (GW School of Nursing) and GSEHD Ph.D. candidate Samantha Long to write a piece about their work training school counselors and school nurses. The piece, "World Mental Health Day: Mental Health Care for Children," shares the impetus and impact of their work. Using an interdisciplinary model, this project aims to enhance the learning and understanding of these future providers in an effort to better serve children and their mental health care needs through the school system—one of the major providers of mental health care for children.
Dr. Parker and Dr. Darcy-Mahoney received a grant from the Macy Foundation for this work.
