Alumna Dr. Dalphine Joppy Named Virginia Region I Superintendent of the Year

GSEHD alumna Dr. Dalphine A. Joppy (Ed.D., Educational Leadership and Policy Studies) has been named Region I Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS). Region I includes 15 school divisions.

Dr. Joppy serves as the Superintendent of Charles City County Public Schools. In her position, she facilitated the development of the 2024-2029 Strategic Plan that promotes providing all students with diverse learning experiences, multiple career pathways, and real-world exposure.

This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Joppy’s leadership and dedication to empowering leaders, supporting teacher development, and advocating for and acquiring resources to improve student outcomes.  In addition, Dr. Joppy is an advocate for small and rural school divisions and supports educational initiatives statewide.

Dr. Joppy holds positions and serves on several boards and committees, such as the Advisory Board for the Educational Leadership and Administration program at The George Washington University, the School-University Resource Network (SURN) Superintendents Advisory Board, the Virginia State University College of Education Dean’s Advisory Board, Mothers and Autism Meetup, and the Garden of Hope Community Development Corporation.
