GSEHD alumna Dr. Brittany Rogers (master's, Early Childhood Education for Diverse Learners; Ed.D., Educational Administration and Policy Studies) has been named the new Principal of Forest Edge Elementary School in Fairfax County, VA.
Per the announcement:
Dr. Rogers is an accomplished instructional leader, collaborator, and relationship builder who has demonstrated a passion and commitment to students, staff and the school community. She brings with her experience as a primary teacher (Rose Hill Elementary), instructional coach (Shrevewood Elementary), and assistant principal (Lake Ann Elementary).
In her teaching role, she strengthened grade level Collaborative Learning Teams and the systems used to ensure students received appropriate academic intervention.
As an instructional coach, Dr. Rogers provided regular, individualized coaching to new and experienced teachers. She also facilitated the work of grade level teacher teams with an emphasis on data-driven instructional practices leading to a 95%, 96%, and 87% pass rate in reading, math, and science, respectively. As a mentor to new teachers and staff members, Dr. Rogers led weekly meetings for staff to reflect and to check in on their well-being. These meetings positively impacted teacher retention and building culture.
As assistant principal of Lake Anne Elementary, Dr. Rogers led work in supporting student behavior, student intervention processes and home-school partnerships. Dr. Rogers has prioritized teacher and staff professional learning around strategies to support student behavior, leading to a 90% reduction in student incident referrals. This work also yielded an 11% decrease in the number of students requiring behavior interventions.
In 2023, Dr. Rogers was named the South Lakes Pyramid Outstanding Leader.
