GSEHD alumna Marlies Mulckhuyse (post-master's certificate, Educational Leadership and Administration) has been named the Frederick County Public Schools (VA) Teacher of the Year.

Ms. Mulckhuyse teaches at Millbrook High School and is head of the school's special education department. Superintendent David Sovine said, "Her passion for teaching is infectious, and she has a genuine desire to see every student reach their full potential regardless of the challenges they may face."

Mulckhuyse, a Netherlands native, has only been an educator for nine years. She transitioned from a 23-year career as a marketing and fundraising specialist to a special education teacher after her son was diagnosed with autism. She had been so inspired by his teacher at the time for how she helped him and them as parents that she decided to follow in her footsteps.
