GSEHD Alumna, Dr. Amber Samuels, Recognized for Community Action in Field of Counseling

GSEHD alumna Dr. Amber Samuels (Ph.D., Counseling) has recently been recognized for her contributions to the field of counseling. She received the 2024 Community Action Award from the Maryland Counseling Association. This award honors a leader in MCA who has demonstrated notable community action to further the professional identity of counselors, increase access to mental health care, and/or provide mental health services to an under-serviced population.

In addition, Dr. Samuels was awarded the 2024 ‘Ohana Honors Award by Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ), a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA). This national award honors individuals whose life and work affirm diversity and advocacy for social justice. More importantly, award recipients have demonstrated engagement in advocacy and social justice in the spirit of the following ‘Ohana qualities: caring, humility, intelligence, generosity, integrity, honesty, unconditional love, spiritual power, courtesy, and courage.

Dr. Samuels currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Hood College. Prior, she served as the Assistant Director of Training of the Community Counseling Services Center (CCSC), Staff Clinical Supervisor, and Professional Lecturer in Counseling at the George Washington University.
