Alumnus Dr. Darrell J. Sampson (master's, Education and Human Development; post-master's certificate, Counseling) has been appointed the new Associate Superintendent for Student Services and Post-Secondary Success for Prince William County Public Schools effective December 1, 2025. Dr. Sampson brings extensive experience and a proven record of leadership in advancing student achievement and well-being.
Dr. Sampson’s career spans multiple roles, including educational specialist, resource teacher, school counselor, and choral/vocal music instructor. Most recently, Dr. Sampson served as executive director of student services at Arlington Public Schools. In this role, he led systemic reforms that significantly reduced chronic absenteeism, expanded nontraditional pathways, and enhanced mental health and substance abuse services in collaboration with county officials. Before his tenure in Arlington, Dr. Sampson was executive director of student support teams at Alexandria City Public Schools, overseeing comprehensive student support services, revising discipline policies, and leading pandemic-era wellness planning. He also co-chaired the Virginia Department of Education’s Student and Staff Supports Committee for the "Recover, Redesign, Restart" initiative and contributed to statewide policy, including Virginia's Suicide Prevention Guidelines.
