GSEHD alumna Deborah Menkart (master’s in Curriculum and Pedagogy) continues to lead efforts to promote equity and social justice in education as executive director of Teaching for Change and co-director of the Zinn Education Project.
Teaching for Change is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering social and economic justice by equipping educators with high-quality, equity-focused teaching materials, providing professional development opportunities, and empowering families to advocate for stronger, more inclusive schools.
Through her leadership, Menkart has helped expand access to resources that center diverse histories and perspectives, supporting educators in creating classrooms that are engaging, inclusive, and responsive to students’ lived experiences. Her work with the Zinn Education Project further advances these goals by promoting the teaching of people’s history and encouraging critical thinking about the past and present.
Menkart’s ongoing contributions reflect a deep commitment to educational equity and the transformative power of teaching. Her leadership continues to shape national conversations about how schools can better serve all students and communities.
