GSEHD alumnus Shawn P. McCarthy (master’s, Educational Technology Leadership) has published a new novel, Local Honey, adding to a growing body of work that explores historical events and the people who shaped them.

Before focusing on writing, Mr. McCarthy spent 17 years as a research director with IDC Government Insights, where he specialized in analyzing government information technology systems and infrastructure. His professional experience in technology and public-sector research has informed his interest in understanding how societies evolve and how innovation shapes the world.

Local Honey is Mr. McCarthy’s sixth book and continues his commitment to historical fiction. Reflecting on his writing, he shared, “I first started writing historical fiction as a way to understand the events, technologies and motivations of other eras, and how they helped lay the foundation for our modern world.”

Through his novels, Mr. McCarthy combines historical research with storytelling, helping readers connect with the people, ideas, and events that have influenced contemporary society. His work demonstrates the power of literature to bring history to life and encourage deeper understanding of the past.
