Dr. Ellen Goldman's heuristic for selecting teaching strategies that fit various learning objectives (also known as "the staircase") was published in Making Learning-Centered Teaching Work: Practical Strategies for Implementation (Phyllis Blumberg, Stylus, Sterling, Virginia). The staircase is used in GW's School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) to establish a common language of learning objectives across the medical school program.
