Graduate Certificate

The graduate certificate in E-Learning provides those who desire to deliver learning materials at a distance with the foundational knowledge and skills required to design, develop and implement effective materials for e-learning. The ideal candidates for this certificate are those who are already involved in distance education or who have the desire to become involved in distance learning. Potential students might be current instructors teaching at a distance or those who would like to develop those skills. Our students learn the skills necessary to be successful E-Teachers and E-Learners. The skills that they learn range from how to design effective instruction for a distance learning environment to how to evaluate critical issues in distance education to how to develop multimedia distance education materials. The Certificate prepares students to apply the theories, principles, models, tools, and techniques associated with E-Learning in diverse organizational settings. Throughout this completely online certificate program students will have numerous opportunities to integrate their professional experiences into their learning, apply their course assignments to their current professional activities, and actively engage with other professionals in the development of these proficiencies.

Students who complete the E-Learning Certificate will:

  • Demonstrate an ability to evaluate the effective use and implementation of E-learning materials
  • Demonstrate an ability to effectively design, develop and implement successful E-learning materials
  • Apply foundational E-learning principles & theories to learning activities in their work place
  • Demonstrate their capacity to successfully design, develop and implement E-learning materials

If you choose to complete an ETL Graduate Certificate, all 18 credit hours may be transferred to the ETL Masters Degree. Since application requirements are somewhat different, acceptance into a Graduate Certificate does not guarantee acceptance into the Masters Degree.

The George Washington University does not distinguish between distance and face-to-face degrees. Therefore, the diploma or certificate you receive from the ETL program is similar to those received from other face-to-face programs at the University.
