Site-Based Leadership: K-12

A general introduction to the principalship. Stresses leadership theory, roles, and management tasks in instruction, curriculum, budget, staff development, supervision, interagency services, student learning, and policy considerations. Site-based management and communication within a changing and diverse school environment.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of practices which enhance the administrator’s role as instructional leader of a school community
  • Develop the knowledge and disposition candidates need as they transition and become effective educational leaders
  • Identify and create a vision of leadership and learning
  • Usage of technology to enrich curriculum and instruction, monitor instruction, provide assistance for improvement, hone professional presentation skills, engage and collaborate with stakeholders and outreach-audience outside of the university
  • Develop skills, disposition and knowledge necessary for using data in leadership for learning
