Commencement 2012

gradcaps
GW Commencement on May 20 will mark a milestone in the lives of the class of 2012 and the university; for the first time the university community will include more than 250,000 alumni. It's not just the quantity of alumni -- it's also the quality and interconnectedness of this community -- that makes GW such a dynamic institution.

GSEHD Commencement

Welcome to GSEHD’s Commencement website. We are excited that you will be joining us during commencement week as we celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates. This is a significant milestone for our graduates and their families and we want to take this opportunity to share with you important details about this year’s events.

GSEHD Doctoral Tea and Recognition Ceremony
Commencement activities begin on Thursday, May 17 at 12:30 pm with the GSEHD Doctoral Tea and Recognition Ceremony. At this event GSEHD’s doctoral graduates are recognized individually by their dissertation chairs. Following the Tea, doctoral graduates and their guests are invited to attend the University’s Hooding Ceremony at 5:00 pm, where doctoral graduates will be hooded by their faculty advocates and the University Provost.

GSEHD Celebration
The GSEHD Celebration is scheduled for May 19 and will begin at 8:00 am. Graduates should arrive by 7:15 am; the procession starts at 7:45 am. At the school ceremony, each graduate is called by name and crosses the stage to be congratulated by the dean of the school, Dr. Michael Feuer. This event is ticketed, and tickets are distributed through the School. A reception in the Marvin Center with faculty, guests and family follows the ceremony.

GW All-University Commencement
On Sunday, May 20, the all-University Commencement will begin with the academic processions at 9:30 a.m. on the National Mall. Graduates are expected to arrive by 9:00 am at the U.S. National Mall (between 8th and 14th Street NW). During this ceremony, President Steven Knapp will confer degrees upon the graduates. Students are not called individually during this event.
