Community Counseling Services Center

The George Washington University (GWU) Community Counseling Services Center (CCSC) is the clinical training facility for the students of the counseling programs in the Department of Counseling and Human Development (DCHD). Graduate level counselor trainees working under faculty supervision provide counseling and related services to clients from the Washington, DC metro area. The services offered include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Family and couples counseling
  • Child and adolescent counseling
  • Career assessment services
  • Consultation and outreach services
  • Clinical supervision training
  • Group counseling is offered on an as needed basis.

To ensure quality service to the public, supervisors review DVD recordings of counseling sessions. Clients can be assured of counselor professionalism and strict confidentiality at all times.

Mission of the CCSC

The mission of the GWU Community Counseling Services Center is to promote excellence in the training of master’s and doctoral students who may then provide quality counseling services to the community. This is accomplished through the simultaneous training of post-Master’s students in providing state-of-the-art clinical supervision.

Goals and Objectives of the CCSC
  • To provide opportunities for students to implement and develop expertise in counseling competencies under the close supervision of faculty and clinical supervisors.
  • To provide post-Master’s students the opportunity to learn and practice supervision theory and techniques.
  • To provide opportunities for students to master the use of personal and career assessment instruments.
  • To provide students with faculty feedback on their clinical and career assessment skills and mastery of counseling theories and practice.
  • To serve as a resource to the Washington, DC metropolitan area by providing low-cost counseling and referral services, clinical screenings, and outreach programming.
  • To train counselors to empower clients through community outreach and client advocacy.

Clinical supervisors are licensed clinicians who are trained or are currently seeking licensure and training to supervise master’s level interns.

Appointments

If you are interested in making an appointment, contact the CCSC at 202-994-8645. The CCSC staff will assist you in answering questions or providing an initial screening for services. The initial telephone screening takes approximately 15 minutes. Clients are typically seen 1 week after the initial phone call.

The CCSC does not accept insurance; therefore, we are able to offer our services at a reduced cost. The fee is $30.00 per session, but slides down depending on income. An additional $15 per assessment is added to the fee if any career counseling assessments are used.

Appointment cancellations without 24-hours notice and no-shows will be charged the full counseling fee.

Exact cash (no change can be given) or checks are received. Checks must be made out to the CCSC.

Career Exploration/Counseling Package

Counselor interns from the Department of Counseling and Human Development offer 6 FREE career exploration/counseling sessions with the option of taking any or all of the following counseling assessments Strong Interest Inventory, the Meyers Briggs or the Self-Directed Search and having the results interpreted.

Services are offered to Adults and High School Students (age
16 and above)

Clients are only charged for the Career Counseling Instruments $15 per assessment (cost of administration and scoring)

The CCSC is open from 9AM to 8PM Monday-Thursday and 9AM to 5PM on Fridays.

The CCSC is not open on the Weekends.
