Regalia can be pre-ordered at the Commencement Fair (see information below). Students who are unable to attend the Commencement Fair can order their regalia online with no shipping cost from March 25 – 29 (see online purchasing instructions below).  After the Commencement fair ends there will be a $25 shipping cost for online orders.  Please note:  doctoral regalia cannot be purchased after April 1, 2014, and cannot be rented after April 6, 2014.  Master’s and EdS regalia can be purchased online until April 20th.

All regalia purchases and rentals can be picked up from the GW Bookstore, from Wednesday, May 14 to Saturday, May 17 during their regular business hours.

All regalia rental returns can be either mailed to the GW Bookstore or dropped off at the bookstore during normal business hours on Friday, May 16 through Saturday, May 18 as well as the week after Commencement.

Online Purchasing Instructions

  2. Doctoral Students: Click “Order Custom Regalia”.  You do not need to purchase the hood, as it will be provided to you by the Registrar’s Office.
  3. Master’s & EdS Students (ordering March 25 - 29) - Click “Order a Cap & Gown”.  Then select “Commencement Fair” and “Master’s degree” from the dropdown menu, and click continue.  Next click on the “Cap and Gown” tab, and finally select your area of study (make sure it says GSEHD, all 4 GSEHD options are the same).   All orders placed in this manner between March 25- 29 will save $25 on shipping.  Your order will be delivered to the GW bookstore, and may be picked up between May 14 - May 17.
  4. Master’s & EdS Students (ordering after March 29): Click “Order a Cap & Gown”.  Then select “Graduate School of Education and Human Development” and “Master’s degree” from the dropdown menu.  Next click on the “Cap and Gown” tab, and finally select your area of study 9(make sure it says GSEHD, all 4 GSEHD options are the same).  

Doctoral - Online Rental Option

  6. The rental price is $99, and you will pick up your rental from the GW bookstore between May 14 - 17.



Summer 2013, Fall 2013, Spring 2014 and Summer 2014 graduates eligible to walk through can pick up their Commencement and school celebration tickets directly from GSEHD. GSEHD does not mail tickets. Graduates will receive six guest tickets for Commencement on the National Mall and six guest tickets for the GSEHD celebration.
 Please complete the mandatory online graduation survey before claiming tickets.  Graduates will need to present a copy of their email confirmation (either printed or on your mobile device) and a valid photo ID to claim their tickets.

ALL DOCTORAL STUDENTS who successfully defend their dissertation by Friday, March 7, 2014 and submit all final dissertation documents to ProQuest by April 1, 2014 will also receive:

  • THREE tickets to the GSEHD Doctoral Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, May 15 at 12:00 pm
  • TEN tickets to the GW University Doctoral Hooding Ceremony on Thursday, May 15 at 5:00 pm

WAITING LIST for GSEHD tickets: Graduates may request additional tickets for the GSEHD Celebration only by sending an email to with the number of tickets you need.
