The Human and Organizational Learning Program (HOL), is a two-time recipient of The Academy of Human Resource Development “Outstanding Program” Award. The HOL program offers an interdisciplinary approach to gain insights about complex people facing complex problems in complex situations. Theory, research and practice are balanced throughout the curriculum to provide students with an understanding of theoretical frameworks and practical applications related to increasing the learning capacity of individuals, groups and organizations, and leading organizational and societal change in increasingly complex environments.

The Position
Assistant/Associate Professor of Human and Organizational Learning

This is a tenure accruing position beginning September 1, 2008. This position is based at the GW main campus at Foggy Bottom, Washington DC. It involves primarily teaching and advising certificate, masters and doctoral students at the main campus. This position may also involve teaching and advising students at other campus locations.

Primary Responsibilities

(1)   Advance HOL and related disciplines through research and scholarship with a research agenda in one or more of the following areas: individual and organizational learning, leadership, and organizational change;

(2)   Teach masters and doctoral level courses in HOL related areas;

(3)   Coordinate masters or doctoral programs on the main campus;

(4)   Chair and serve on doctoral dissertation committees;

(5)   Advise certificate, masters, and doctoral students;

(6)   Offer service to the University, professional associations, and various communities.

 

 

Required Qualifications

(1)   Earned doctorate in Human and Organizational Learning related fields granted by an accredited university and awarded no later than August 15, 2008;

(2)   Academic preparation in individual and organizational learning, leadership, and organizational change;

(3)   Demonstrated research capabilities in both quantitative and qualitative methods;

(4)   Evidence of scholarly writing and participation in professional conferences;

(5)   Teaching experience at the graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications

(1)    Professional experience in international or global setting (e.g. research, teaching, consulting);

(2)    Evidence of professional, academic, and/or organizational leadership;

(3)    Experience in grants and sponsored research;

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and prior experience.

Evidence of capabilities for teaching graduate courses, and a statement of teaching philosophy including teaching adult learners, the relationship between theory and practice, and ideas for enhancing the preparation of masters/doctoral students to conduct and use research;
  • e. Research advising capabilities. Evidence of capabilities for chairing and/or serving on dissertation committees.

2. A current curriculum vitae;

3. Copies of two publications or other evidence of scholarly writing most relevant to the position;

4. Graduate transcripts;

5. Names and contact information of five references who are current or former supervisors, or other people who have first-hand knowledge of the applicant’s capabilities for this position. Assistant Professor in Curriculum and Instruction/Reading
(Non-Tenure Accruing, Academic Year, Three Year Appointment)

The Department of Teacher Preparation and Special Education of The George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development invites applications for an Assistant Professor in the area of Curriculum and Instruction/Reading beginning September 2008.  This is a renewable, three year contract position (non-tenure accruing). 

Primary Job Responsibilities:  The primary job responsibilities are: (a) teaching graduate courses that support the Department’s programs in elementary, secondary, and special education and bilingual special education; and the doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction; (b) marketing and recruitment for a reading/literacy concentration in Curriculum and Instruction and a reading/literacy certificate program; (c) participation in service activities for the department, school, university and community; and (d) scholarly research resulting in publication in top-ranked peer reviewed journals and research presentations.

Basic Qualifications:  Requirements are an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Education.  ABD candidates will be considered, but must complete all degree requirements by August 15, 2008. Applicants must have teaching experience at the university level and demonstrated teaching excellence as indicated by research presentations and teaching evaluations.  Applicants must demonstrate scholarly research as evidenced by publications in scholarly journals or scholarly works in progress.

Preferred Qualifications:  Preferred qualifications are experience teaching reading at the university level and at the elementary or secondary level.  The preferred candidate will have experience in program development.  Strong communication and organization skills and the ability to collaborate with local school systems are highly valued.

Assistant Professor in Education Administration, Loudoun, VA,

Position.
The School’s Education Administration Program in the Department of Education Leadership seeks a promising scholar in education administration to fill the position of Assistant Professor in Education Administration (2 Year Renewable, contingent upon enrollment, 12-month contract appointment, non-tenure accruing) beginning January 1, 2009.  The position’s primary responsibilities are to facilitate courses in education administration at the doctoral level in support of the off-campus Virginia Executive Doctoral Cohort Program in Loudoun, Virginia, and recruit and develop the program at the Loudoun Campus as its site coordinator.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the scholarship of Education Administration Program and engage in the program administration and oversight of the Loudoun Campus.  The duties will include the continued development of the education administration doctoral program including curriculum and assessment initiatives, recruitment of prospective students, advising doctoral students in all stages of their graduate program, and collaborating with local, regional and national partners in extending the experiences of students in the program.

Education Administration Program Overview
The GW Education Administration (EA) program is fast growing and steadily rising in reputation and national visibility. Our degrees (M.A., Post-Masters, Ed.S., and Ed.D.) prepare educators who can apply knowledge and analytical skills as they develop into the future leaders of our nation. The program offers an innovative executive doctoral cohort program that attracts students nationally. Graduates of the program take administrative, academic, and research positions in public, private, and charter schools and top-level positions in institutions, government agencies, and educational associations in business and industry.   Co-curricular activities such as Dissertation Study Groups, Meet the Leaders Series, Research Colloquia, and the Annual ESRI Student Research Symposia support classroom learning and build student community.
