Dr. Laurie Alderman, Visiting Assistant Professor in the Early Childhood Special Education Program, Department of Special Education, has expertise in the areas of professional development, preservice preparation, autism and inclusive models. Dr. Alderman has been the Coordinator of Autism Services for Arlington County Public Schools since 1997. She developed several programs within the Arlington County school system for students with and without disabilities. Dr. Alderman has taught and lectured at various institutions, including The George Washington University, The University of Maryland, Marymount University, Georgetown University, hospitals in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and the Arlington County school system. She serves as an advisory board member on a grant for The Children’s National Medical Center regarding educating students with Asperger’s Syndrome and on a grant for The George Washington University regarding early childhood special education preservice preparation. Dr. Alderman has published several reports and technical guides in the area of autism.
