Unique mixed media: found pamphlets, pastepapers, collage, acrylic with metallic pigments and thread, with methyl cellulose and polyvinyl acetate glues.

Commissioned to commemorate the 100th and 30th anniversaries of the Graduate School of Education and Human Development and the Museum Education Program in 2004. The pages of this unique artist’s book—between a copper mesh cover displaying the medallion denoting the century span 1904-2004—are divided into three sections: text referring to 1904, text referring to 1974, and text referring to 2004.

The themes of creativity, collaboration, and the connections between classroom teaching and learning from original artifacts—part of the value of museums to education and life-long learning—were sources of inspiration….

Many pages in the book are comprised of woven strips of paper that are painted with acrylic pigments and methylcellulose and stitched. These woven pages were cut from an array of found pamphlets from museums and galleries.

The interweaving of image and text reflects the layers of meaning and the multi-dimensional connections inherent in the Museum Education Program, which trains professionals for work in science, history, and art museums. Other pages are comprised of white paper painted directly with layers of acrylic pigments suspended in methylcellulose solution, a pastepaper technique used in bookbinding traditions.
