Doctoral Degree Program -Washington, DC and Ashburn, VA

    The Program
The HEA EdD program prepares exceptional mid-career professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary for promotion into senior leadership jobs. • Program delivery overview:

      • Offered at two sites: Foggy Bottom/main campus in Washington, DC; and, the Virginia Campus in Ashburn, VA
      • Program in four phases (2-3 years for coursework, 1-3+ years for dissertation depending upon student's topic and research strategy)
    • Foggy Bottom/main campus:
      • Self-paced format
      • Evening classes (once a week for 15 weeks fall and spring terms, intensive summer sessions)
      • Matriculation during any semester, although course sequences begin in the fall

Benefits of a Washington, DC, Location
GW’s location in Washington, DC, provides unparalleled opportunities for HEA students. The DC university consortium provides a wealth of elective courses. Internships, practica, and independent studies can be secured in associations, at the U.S. Department of Education, in federal agencies, and on Capitol Hill. Local and visiting experts visit HEA courses and events and are locally available for consultation on research projects.

    Program Support
The HEA program builds community among its students as well as enriches the degree experience through a variety of activities. The Meet the Leaders series annually hosts ten education leaders for informal sessions with students. The Student Affairs Administration Brown-Bag Lunch Series focuses on key areas within student affairs programming. The HEA Student Association organizes gatherings as part of its community-building mission. The Center for Educational Leadership and Transformation (CELT) sponsors Research Colloquia and Doctoral Advancement Seminars that engage students in all degrees in research and scholarly discussions.

The annual Educational Symposium on Research and Innovation (ESRI) provides enrichment experiences, career support (such as job search counsel, resume preparation), and sessions for students to present original work in research and practice that is then nurtured by faculty for submission to national conferences and publications. The Institute for Education Policy Studies and educational clearinghouses, and others on campus, enhance the educational experience of students and serve as sources of employment for some students.
