If you are interested in our graduate programs in counseling and human & organizational studies, here are some points for you to consider in making your decision:
Our department comprises three major areas - counseling, human & organizational learning, and human development. Please note that our Ed.D. and Ed.S. degrees in human resource development are now in human & organizational learning. The M.A. degree remains in human resource development.. The programs as a whole are referred to as the Human & Organizational Learning Program.
The Graduate School of Education and Human Development is among the top 30 schools of education in the country. The Rehabilitation Counseling Program is ranked 6th in the nation by U.S.News & World Report.
We have 21 faculty members, whose research interests vary from Eriksonian human development to the study of learning to aging effectively to HIV/AIDS issues. Last year, the department's faculty published six peer reviewed journal articles; 19 book chapters, monographs or other publications; and 12 publications are currently in press. Faculty members delivered 31 national presentations and seven international presentations. Many of our faculty have held or currently hold national offices in professional associations; others serve on editorial review boards of major journals. You will be learning alongside a distinguished faculty.
We have a large and talented research staff that helps implement the department's mission through grant programs and institutes. Last year, the faculty wrote 18 new or continuing grant proposals. Many of the project staff for these funded proposals are advanced graduate students in our programs. These students benefit from being able to apply their new learning to venues closely related to their professional fields.
The Counseling Programs are accredited by the national Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) and the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE).
The Human & Organizational Learning Program has a number of partnerships with corporations that allow students opportunities for real-world learning experiences.
